JAABS is the family of BBA and MBA graduates from the former Department of Administration (now the Institute of Business Administration), Jahangirnagar University. With the vision of "Creating Value Through Synergy," JAABS will pursue and achieve the specific objectives laid in its constitution in a non-profit and non-political way. Aided by the active participation of its members, JAABS hopes to bring a multiplier effect through networking with the family and creating value in the coming days.
Having graduated from the DBA/IBA, the ex-students felt the need to have an organization of their own to aid the advancement of the department, maintain close fellowship among the DBA/IBA graduates, and assist the current & former students in their interests. So, the journey begins.
In August 2002, five representatives from the first five batches of the Department of Business Administration (now Institute of Business Administration DBA/IBA), Jahangirnagar University, took the initiative to communicate, organize and form an Alumni body of the ex-students. Subsequently, 41 graduates from the first to fifth batches and representatives from the seventh and eighth batches were given full responsibilities to the initiators to carry out specific duties up to the JAABS inauguration through a discussion meeting held in National Press Club on 15th October 2002. Later JAABS organized a daylong program at Jahangirnagar University to celebrate the 12th year of the Department of Business Administration on 9th May 2003. The organizing committee held more than 40 meetings (including two discussion meetings and one re-union of 11 bathes on 9th May 2003) and collected 101 registered members. Presently there are 26 regular Batches and a few more WMBA who completed their degree from this institute. There are presently 166 life members and 9 General Members.
JAABS started its formal operation through an Inauguration Ceremony held on 3rd March 2004 The ceremony was at the Russian Cultural Centre, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, President of ICC Bangladesh, graced the program as Chief Guest. Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Monjurul Haque, Dean of the Social Science Faculty of Jahangirnagar University, was the special guest. Mr. Mohammad Farhad Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration at Jahangirnagar University, chaired the program.
